2026 MHLT Referendum

HELLO MHLT COMMUNITY

School pride is evident at MHLT which is why the School Board voted to include ONE important question on the November 3, 2026 ballot. This referendum question aims to address operational budget needs, program exploration, and facility maintenance priorities while managing tax payer dollars wisely.

Due to state-funding not keeping pace with inflation, school districts across Wisconsin continue to seek authorization from their communities to exceed state-imposed revenue limits to address funding shortages.

This referendum seeks additional funding to maintain current programming, staff levels, class sizes, and even MHLT traditions like the canoe trip. Feedback from students, parents, and alumni grandparents have been overwhelmingly positive in what MHLT offers and with voter approval the District will be able to maintain the educational experiences the children of this community deserve.

THE COMMUNITY SURVEY SHOWED OVERHWHELMING SUPPORT FOR MHLT PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES

DID YOU KNOW?

MHLT has not gone to referendum since 2006!

The community has consistently expressed confidence in the district’s management of funds over the past two decades. The time has come, however, where our current budget isn’t able to meet the needs of our students. With inconsistent state funding and declining enrollment MHLT is turning to its community for the first time in 20 years.

Why can’t the District fund these expenses with its current budget?

The State-allowed increases to our District’s revenue limits have not kept up with the cost of inflation, meaning that even maintaining the current level of services required the District to operate at a deficit.

Wisconsin’s existing school funding methods make operating referendums necessary to avoid drastic cuts in programs and services.

85% of all school districts in Wisconsin, and many of our neighbors, have utilized an operating referendum to address funding shortages.
